Spirometry & Silica/Coal Dust/ Asbestos Testing

Coal dust, asbestos, silica, and welding dust can all cause irreparable damage and long-term consequences to the lungs. Lung tissue scarring, difficulty breathing, lung a cancer and, ultimately, death are common results of exposure to these aerosols.

Spirometry and Lung health monitoring programs help identify these conditions before its too late.

OH&S mandates that any worker exposed to asbestos, silica, or coal dust must undergo a spirometry test within 60 days of exposure.

After their initial test, additional testing must be done every two years.
Spirometry (PFT) testing evaluates the respiratory system after exposure to these dangerous irritants.

It is a cardio-pulmonary test that is preferred to assess lung function and identify damage.

Silica / Coal Dust / Asbestos Monitoring

Any worker exposed to asbestos, silica, or coal dust should undergo a periodic lung health check, including spirometry, X-ray and medical review, within 60 days of exposure.

After their initial test, additional testing must be done every two years to ensure there is no degradation in lung health.
